Via Dolorosa - The Way of Suffering (David Hare's One Man Play)

When I saw this play back in the 90s, I wasn't expecting much. A one man play about the Israeli Palestinian conflict? By a British actor? Seriously? ... yet within minutes I was spellbound. Mesmerized. And I've never forgotten the play. In fact, I've tried to get a DVD copy for years now. But a copyright dispute delayed its release.

But today David Hare's brilliant one man play VIA DOLOROSA (Latin for the way of suffering) has been released, and I'm ordering my copy from Amazon.com. Finally! Hare takes his audience on a journey from London to the killing fields of Israel and the Gaza Strip while examining the truly devastating effects of political-philosophical-religious extremism in both Israeli and Palestinian families and communities. The play is also wonderful history of the Old Testament and the plight of the Jews. Perfect to show my Old Testament class this fall! :-) :-) :-)

I hope someday David does a Part 2 to this play ... as in the years since, the story has moved on ... and with even more tragic consequences ...
