Fatal Accident: Ramsey Street, Fayetteville, North Carolina

Such a sad and tragic accident in front of Methodist University in Fayetteville, North Carolina on Sunday, March 6, 2011. The crash took the life of 19-year-old Lora Morrison (driver of the orange Mustang) and injured (non-life threatening injuries) Michael Rizzotti, the driver of the black truck. Unfortunately I came upon this horrific scene while stopping by Methodist University. Since I carry a camera with me whenever I go (as a photographer and photojournalist) and saw no other photographers present, I took photos. The Fayetteville Observer asked permission to use one of my photos for their news story online and in their print edition as well. I gave them permission. Below is a link to their online story with my contributed photo (click on photo to make bigger):

Our prayers remain with everyone involved.

UPDATE: A few folks have e-mailed me to ask if I made money off of these photos, I feel it is important to post that I did not. Nor would I accept any monetary payment for them. In terms of newspapers and news stations, only staff photographers or photographers who are on assignment are paid for their work. I am not a staff photographer, and I was not on assignment. I do feel that a visual record of such events, however tragic, is important, which is why I took the photos. If any of my loved ones were ever in such an accident, I very much would want a visual record of the scene.

Governor Mouton Camellia (taken at a Camellia Show)

For 65 years the Fayetteville, North Carolin Camellia Club has been hosting an annual Camellia Show, and here is one of their award winning Governor Mouton Camellias (I hope I got that right!). I've never really paid attention to Camellia's before. A mistake - 'cause wow, they are beautiful!!!
